Day 14 & 15, Skirt Challenge

Phew, we had a busy weekend! I hope you all did too! Saturday went shopping and went to a BBQ, the weather has still been on the cool side and layers were a must!

Sunday morning we dressed up
for church. Miss J and I wore maxis, while Miss E wore tights with her dress and cardigan. I love to see how their personalities show in the outfits they put together.

Day 10 Skirt Challenge

A fun filled day of errands! We are all wearing skirts I have made.
My skirt is a lightweight knit, high- low hem. I really like this shade of grey, it's a good neutral with bright turquoise!

Graphic Print Pencil Skirt

Last summer when my sister was in town, she found this fabric. it's a heavy weight stretch suiting, and wow the print! I love the colors and the print and the moment she showed it to me I knew I wanted it! I mean come on just look at it! The outfit potential is off the charts.

I knew I wanted a pencil skirt with that much stretch and a with such a busy print, I wanted to keep it simple. Deciding which way to cut it was hard, on the bias or on the grain? Also, which way should the pattern in the print go?

In the end, I went with the grain since it has enough stretch that I could make it into a slim pencil style and still walk, sit and have some range of movement.

Here is the finished skirt. I love it and I'll post more outfits as I wear them. This skirt will definitely have a permanent spot in my wardrobe, I wear every color in it!

Day 5, skirt challenge

Day 5, this has been fun this week. And very comfortable! Today I'm sewing, mending, steaming and a few fittings as well. My tee shirt is from gap but I painted the colors on it.  Boring shirts won't do! The skirt is from j crew and one of my favorite! I've made at least 3 very similar to this.

Day 4, skirt challenge

Ok don't judge, today I'm staying home, cleaning house, working our yard and garden, and it's supposed to be on the mid 80's! My girls both wanted to wear skirts, so here we are.

Day 3 of the skirt challenge

Day 3, and I had to teach my yoga class this morning and then didn't have time to take a photo till now. No I didn't start a skirt for yoga, but after a shower, changed into one of my favorite summer skirts, I made it a few years ago out of a remnant that is periwinkle cotton.

Day 2, skirt challenge

Day 2 of the skirt challenge, lucky for us the weather is supposed to be sunny and hot this week! I told my family about the challenge, and my girls want to do it, my husband, who knows me very well, said "have fun!"
Who else is doing this? Show me what your wearing!

A skirt and a challenge

I saw something a few weeks ago about modesty and noticed there is a revival of modest dressing, there are more designers and brands that are making hemlines longer, wider straps, cute sleeves, or higher necklines. The feeling is by covering a little more, you have an air of mystery or class, showing a more feminine side and that has been awesome to see that in the trends and styles now.

Now here is my challenge....Starting May 11th, Mother's Day. I'm going to embrace my femininity and wear a skirt or dress everyday until June 14th (Except when I'm working out!) I realized I have a lot of skirts and dresses that I don't wear very often, just waiting for a special occasion.  And why not try this out and see what outfits I can come up with? In the end I might be packing the un-worn skirts away for my girls...
I will try and remember to post a photo everyday and I would love to see who else wants to do this!! Can you do it? Are you up to the Challenge? Share your photos in the comments and let's show the world that being modest, cute and feminine doesn't have to be frumpy.

Here are a few examples of what I might be wearing the next few weeks.
